Activities to do around Chester with kids

If you’re having a family visit that includes some younger siblings, it can be handy to know about suitable places to take them. Here are some ideas.

One of the first places to visit would be the famous Chester Zoo, which is one of the biggest in the UK with over 35,000 animals to see, such as chimpanzees, rhinos, giraffes, Asian elephants and tigers. The zoo also has various experiences on offer. For example, you could sit before the lion habitat while you enjoy a cooked breakfast or spend a day as a zookeeper.

Another option is to take a ride on the miniature railway in Grosvenor Park. It was opened in 1996 to mark the 100th anniversary of the nearby railway at Eaton Hall, the Duke of Westminster’s residence. The quarter-mile circuit takes in the beauty of the park and the activities going on within it. Trains run from 10am to 5pm at the weekend, with there also being a shorter service from 11pm to 4pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.

For something a little more active, you could try going to Crocky Trail, an outdoor adventure park about five miles from Chester station. The park offers its visitors rope swings, mazes and slides, but the particularly daring may want to try The Flusher, a steep slide that sends its passengers plummeting at the pull of a lever.
