The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has recognised That Beer Place?in Chester as the?National Cider and Perry Pub of the Year 2024, in recognition of its efforts to promote real perry and cider.
The pub is owned by Lisa and Dale Lord, who were given the award in the pub as a part of CAMRA’s Cider and Perry Month. The pub is popular with both cider and beer enthusiasts, but it has focused in particular on promoting a wide range of perries and ciders. In addition to a diverse range of bottled options, it also sells a selected range of draught ones. It also hosts the Chester Cider Club for one evening every month and regularly invites industry experts and independent cider brewers to events at the pub. It also plans to launch an initiative to educate drinks buyers and local restaurants about the diverse variety of ciders.
Sarah Newson, the competition co-ordinator at CAMRA, said:
“That Beer Place?is a very worthy winner, and I congratulate Lisa and Dale for creating such a positive environment for cider and perry education to flourish. Their desire to put cider front and centre in the UK drinks scene is admirable and one we can all support.”
That Beer Place?can be found in the heart of Chester on Foregate Street. If you like to be close to places like this, you can find shared student accommodation near Chester city centre, sometimes with utility bills included in the rent and no deposit to pay up front.
