Chester University showcases undergraduate research

The University of Chester has highlighted the best research conducted by its undergraduates at an event.

The Showcase of Undergraduate Research Exchange (SURE) was arranged by the Research and Innovation Office at the university to provide opportunities for undergraduate students to present their work, learn from research from others and network with others with a passion for research.

Marine biology student Talia Mullen-Humphreys won the vote for the best oral presentation. This discussed the ornamental pet trade and how exotic species are being increasingly demanded, including vampire crabs becoming a collectible crustacean and needing an evaluation of how to best protect them. The top poster presentation came from education student Tanya Sharples, with this discussing her dissertation about how compulsory physical education can potentially have a negative emotional effect on some children, based on experiences reported by both child and adult participants.

The university’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for innovation and research, Professor Paul Bissell, said about the event:

“It was so inspiring to hear the research carried out by our undergraduate students. This event gave them a taste of presenting to a range of academic colleagues and external guests and the chance to support and learn from their peers. We’re very proud of all the students who took part.”

The University of Chester is consistently a popular place to study, with the city’s charm and vibrant nightlife adding to the appeal. If you’re coming to Chester, or already here and looking for new digs, you can get bills included in student accommodation in Chester, making it easier to budget.
