Chester Zoo announces fundraising runs

After a successful launch last year, Chester Zoo has announced that its Run for Nature event will take place again this year in September.

The main event will be a 10 km run around the zoo’s 128-acre estate, with runners at all levels of ability being encouraged to participate. A maximum of 2,500 runners can take part in the event, but there will also be a mile-long fun run for children aged 4–15.

This year’s event will take place on Sunday September 22, which has been chosen to coincide with World Rhino Day. The zoo’s website says about this:

“…we’re raising money for vital work to protect this wonderful animal […] You’ll run through the zoo before we open to the public, on a 10k route around our zoo estate. Your little ones can get involved too, with a 1 mile ZOOM for 4-15 years olds!”

The zoo says that the proceeds from the event will support its efforts to protect rhinoceroses around the world from extinction. It recently supported the return of 21 black rhinos to Loisaba Conservancy in northern Kenya, where the species went extinct due to poaching half a century ago. The zoo says it helped develop hormone monitoring techniques that will be used to monitor these animals closely as they adapt to their new surroundings.

Chester’s lively events schedule is a great addition for those coming to study in the city. If you’re looking for shared student housing in Chester, you’ll find the city has quality options with bills included in the rent and no fees or deposits to pay up front.
