New flight simulator opens near Chester

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to fly a Boeing 747, you can now get your chance thanks to a new authentic flight simulator that has opened on the outskirts of Chester.

The Boeing 747 made affordable air travel around the world possible for over half a century, with British Airways flying one of the largest fleets of them, including the -400 type. Nevertheless, the retirement of this iconic plane was brought forward during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the almost complete grounding of commercial air flights.

A team of enthusiasts and aviation engineers have now spent three years engineering a B747-400 simulator in Tattenhall, based on an original cockpit from a British Airways plane, and you can now book a virtual flight to a number of destinations around the world with a 220-degree visualisation. You don’t need any previous flying experience, and an experienced instructor will be on hand to guide you through the flying experience.

Visitors can book “short haul” flights lasting 150 or 90 minutes, as well as a “long haul” flight if they want to enjoy the experience for more than three hours. Special events will also be taking place, such as afternoon teas.

There’s always something to do in Chester and the surrounding area, so it’s little wonder that the city is such a popular choice among students.
