Students recognised for volunteering and professional development

The University of Chester recently honoured students who went the extra mile to develop their professional skills, or volunteered to make a difference in society.

An amazing 9,229 hours of volunteering by 244 students took place this year. A special event at the Riverside Innovation Centre recognised the students who had taken part in the University of Chester Volunteering Award (UCV) and the Chester Difference Award (CDA).

Two awards were also given for Volunteer Organisation of the Year based on nominations from student volunteers, and Volunteer of the Year based on nominations from university staff and charities.

The event was organised by the Career and Employability team, and 57 UCV and 64 CDAs were awarded to students. The Volunteer Organisation of the Year was awarded to Bowbrook Archers, while final-year law student Libby Ryan was named Volunteer of the Year.

The university’s manager for volunteering and mentoring, Jo Morison, said:

“Every year, this event is a real highlight for the Careers and Employability team, as we celebrate and recognise students who give time to the community and towards their professional development. The event showcased all the inspiring activities our students participate in to Make a Difference.”

The University of Chester offers more than just an excellent study experience, and awards like the UCV and CDA are not just fulfilling—they can help you stand out in a competitive job market. If you’re studying at Chester, you can find shared student accommodation in Hoole and other popular student areas.
