The items you need for moving into student accommodation

You’ve arranged some quality student accommodation near Chester University, preferably with bills included, and worked out your budget. What’s next? Well, we’re taking a look at what you need to bring when you move in.

Private student accommodation varies in terms of what is provided, so it’s important to consider what will be available. Shared student housing in Chester will typically have at least the basic furnishings for living and cooking, but you may need or want other things beyond that. For example, is a washing machine provided? If not, are you happy going to a laundrette, or would you rather rent a washing machine? If a television isn’t provided, do you want one? You may also want some non-standard kitchen equipment, such as a sandwich toaster or air fryer.

If you lived in halls last year, or are coming as a fresher, you will find you need to bring some extra things with you. For example, you will likely need to bring your own bed linen, as well as eating and cooking utensils like plates, cutlery, pots and pans. If some of these things are provided, ask your landlord or letting agency for the inventory if you don’t already have it, so you know what you don’t need to bring. You could also coordinate with your housemates, so you don’t end up with five tin openers but no mugs.

With some careful planning, you can make sure you have everything you need in your new accommodation without having pack up your entire room.
